Side shop:

A side shop was a smaller lane-side store in older Dota 2 maps that let heroes buy a limited set of items without walking all the way back to base.

It mattered because it reduced downtime during the laning phase, especially for heroes who needed early boots, basic components, or quick utility items while staying near their lane. By making purchases closer to combat, it helped players keep pressure on creeps and opponents instead of missing gold and experience while returning to the fountain. For example, a lane support could pick up a needed item component from the side shop and stay in position to protect a carry rather than leaving the lane for a long shop trip.
