Open queue is an Overwatch 2 matchmaking format where players can choose any heroes without fixed role limits. Unlike role queue, it does not require teams to fill specific tank, damage, and support slots, so team compositions can be more flexible.
It matters because it changes how matches are built and how teams coordinate, with players able to stack roles or run unconventional lineups. Open queue is available in both quick play and competitive play as a separate queue type.
