Poke comp is a team composition built around dealing damage from range, using sustained pressure to weaken opponents before a full engagement begins.
In Overwatch 2, poke compositions try to control space by repeatedly damaging enemies, forcing them to use cooldowns, shields, or cover before they can start a fight on favorable terms. These comps are strongest on maps with long sightlines or defensible chokes, where ranged heroes can keep opponents at a distance and make every approach costly. They matter because they can win fights without a hard dive or brawl, simply by creating chip damage and denying safe rotations. For example, a team holding a high-ground angle with long-range damage and healing can pressure a payload lane, force the enemy tank to retreat behind cover, and then secure an eliminations once a target is already weakened.
