GOATS is a team composition built around three tanks and three supports, with no damage heroes.

The name comes from the original Overwatch team GOATS, which popularized the lineup in high-level play. In Overwatch 2, the term still describes any brawl-style setup that relies on heavy survivability, close-range pressure, and sustained healing rather than burst damage. It matters because it changes how teams take space: GOATS compositions try to win by staying grouped, forcing short-range fights, and outlasting opponents instead of picking targets from a distance. A concrete example is a team pushing through a choke with Reinhardt, D.Va, and Zarya in front of Lucio, Brigitte, and Moira, then collapsing on enemies together once the fight starts.
