Shadow Defense:

Shadow defense is a defensive positioning technique in Rocket League where a player retreats toward their own goal while matching an attacker’s movement, instead of challenging immediately. It is used to slow down an attack, protect the goal, and force the opponent into a less dangerous shot or touch.

Good shadow defense helps defenders buy time for teammates to recover and can turn a direct attack into a controllable 50/50 or a poor-angle shot.
