IGL stands for “in-game leader,” the player who makes the team’s mid-round calls and overall strategic decisions during a match. In VALORANT, the IGL often decides when to take space, rotate, call a hit, or adjust the team’s plan based on enemy positions and utility.

The role matters because clear shot-calling helps teams stay coordinated under pressure. An IGL may also set the team’s pace and help manage economy and adaptations between rounds.
